There are IHSS Recipients in need of a care provider to live safely and independently in their own home. The Public Authority Registry assists IHSS Recipients with finding a care provider and IHSS Providers with finding employment.

Orange County IHSS Public Authority Homecare Registry

The Orange County IHSS Public Authority is an agency that was established to manage a Registry comprised of homecare Providers to work for IHSS Recipients, enabling Recipients to remain safe and independent in their own home.

The Providers on the Orange County IHSS Public Authority Registry have been prescreened and must attend an orientation, pass the reference check, complete an over the phone interview with our team, and pass the Department of Justice criminal background check.

REGISTRY PROVIDER REQUIREMENTS

INTERESTED PROVIDERS MUST FOLLOW THE APPLICATION PROCESS:

  1. Submit a complete application
  2. Provide a current and valid government-issued photo ID and Social Security card for verification
  3. Provide professional references who can provide information on your performance and work ethic
  4. Complete an over the phone interview with our team 
  5. Pay and pass the Department of Justice Live Scan/criminal background check
  6. Attend Registry Recruitment Orientation
  7. Attend Provider Enrollment Orientation

What is the Registry Recruitment Orientation?

The Registry Recruitment Orientation is conducted to provide applicants an opportunity to learn about the roles and responsibilities of an IHSS homecare provider. This is the time for the applicant to determine if the position meets their expectations. The orientation includes:

  • An Introduction to IHSS & Orange County IHSS Public Authority
  • Services provided by an IHSS Provider 
  • Who are the Recipients and Providers
  • What is the Provider Registry
  • Process for joining the Provider Registry
  • Tips on increasing opportunities for employment and the interview process
  • Review of the rules and responsibilities of the Registry Provider
  • Review of the Provider Policies and Procedures
  • Viewing and discussion of the Safety and Housekeeping & Roles and Responsibilities DVDs
  • Overview of the Registry application and application process

We understand that not everyone has prior homecare work experience and those who do not have experience can still apply. Skills-related training is available, but dependability, honesty, and trustworthiness are a must.

Orange County IHSS Public Authority provides training, education, and resources to help IHSS Providers succeed.

Non-Registry Providers

Non-Registry Providers are Providers who are not on the Orange County IHSS Public Authority Registry and have been independently hired by a Recipient. A Non-Registry Provider can be a Recipient’s family member, friend, or someone the Recipient found outside of the Registry.

Note: If you are a Non-Registry Provider looking for more work as a Registry Provider, you must attend the Registry Recruitment Orientation. The Registry Recruitment Orientation is different from the Provider Enrollment Orientation.
